I put many hours on a Cat machine (287) that had the ASV undercarriage. The .We ran comparison tests at ASV proving grounds in Minnesota, operating ASV and competitor . General discussion forum for the ASV / Terex skidsteer brand. Terex attachment . ASV has a Perkins engine, turbo, 99.5 HP. The ASV is the only one I've operated, so I can't make a comparison. ASV if plenty strong, and fast. Easy daily maintenance. Cab space is tight, but not bad. Cramped, but comfortable. Cab is POORLY sealed and gets really dusty.
The list price I was given was 85K.I feel too much for a skid steer, add a mulch head for 23K and it's 108K (basicly a Supertrac TL150). If I'm going to spend that much I'm going bigger with a custom mulcher, it's almost double the cost but should out work the skid steer 2-1 and hold up for the long run and in turn make more money. The ground was a bit moist, and I fear a skid steer would have made a mess. This RC30 dug well, had little slippage, and worked well with damp ground. Ok well I bought my first CTL today.. it's a 2003 ASV RC-30, has a little over 500 hours and seems to be in decent shape - except for the right track. Almost all of the underside lugs have been chipped/broken off on the inside. I think the MD70 is a good overall machine but it may have some smaller issues. The MD70 has done well for several contractors and indeed was the inspiration behind the RTSS undercarriage found on the current series of machines.
